Patrick Henry CC Head Coach Kenny Wade Passes Away Suddenly

According to a release by the NJCAA today, Patrick Henry Community College (VA) head coach Kenny Wade has passed away suddenly.

The NJCAA is mourning the loss of Patrick Henry (VA) head men’s basketball coach Kenny Wade who passed away suddenly.

Wade, who took over as head coach for the Patriots in 2009, recorded over 100 career wins while guiding student-athletes to numerous all-region and All-American selections. Wade was instrumental in starting the Patrick Henry program in 2007. As an assistant in the program’s first year of competition, the Patriots went a perfect 18-0 in conference play. During his head coaching tenure, Wade earned NJCAA Region X Coach of the Year honors while sending multiple players onto the professional ranks.

Wade, who also served as the Director of Facilities and Transportation at Patrick Henry, was recently promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in August.

Prior to his coaching career, Wade was a member of Mount Aloysius (PA), a former member of the NJCAA.

“Kenny Wade was one of the most outstanding individuals that ever walked the sidelines,” stated NJCAA Executive Director Dr. Christopher Parker who hired Wade to take over the head coaching position at Patrick Henry. “He was there with me from day one and experienced it all first hand. He was not only a great colleague and friend, but he was like a brother to me.”

“Just like most of the individuals that serve our association,” Parker added, “he packed up everything that he had and came back home for absolutely nothing just to be a part of joining our association that gave him a chance out of high school to compete.”

Our thoughts are with Coach Wade’s family and the PHCC community at this time.
