Marque Carrington – Key to Success Basketball

Marque Carrington served Cardinal Gibbons H.S. (Raleigh, NC) as boys basketball coach (2008-14). Thirteen players earned academic all-conference honors annually. Five of his six seasons included North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) State Playoff berths. Cardinal Gibbons was the 2009-10 Carolina Six 3A Conference Champions, and Carrington was named league Coach of the Year. The 2013-14 Crusaders earned North Carolina’s highest grade point average among NCHSAA basketball teams. Carrington, a previous assistant coach at St. Augustine’s University and N.C. A&T University is founder of Key to Success – a seminar-based coaching development program.

Lloyd Church – McDowell High School Boys Basketball Head Coach (Retired)

Lloyd Church won 384 games while at McDowell H.S.  During his tenure he won four regular-season and nine conference tournament championships. Church’s teams advanced to the West Regional finals in 1992 and 2007, and seven of the school’s twelve 20-win seasons came during his tenure. Church’s teams at McDowell qualified for the NCHSAA State Playoffs each year from 1990-2011.  He was named conference Coach of the Year five times, and coached in both the Blue-White and North-South All-Star Games. Church was inducted into the McDowell H.S. Hall of Fame this past January. (Source: McdowellNews.com)

Tim Kelly – Trinity High School Boys Basketball Head Coach

Tim Kelly is one of the most consistent coaches in NCHSAA state history.  This past season Kelly earned his 570th career win. Coach Kelly was the NCHSAA 2A Boys State Champion in 2004 and State Runner-Up in 2008.  In 2004 he was the Associated Press Boys Coach of the Year. During his career he has been conference coach of the year nine times, and county coach of the year eight times.  In 2005 he was the coach of the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game. Kelly has lead his team to twenty-six state playoff appearances and eleven conference championships.

Chris LePore – Univ. of North Carolina-Greensboro (UNCG) Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach

Chris LePore is in his fourth season overall on head coach Wes Miller’s staff.  This past season the Spartans won the conference regular season, and post season tournament and made NCAA Tournament.   At the conclusion of the season the Spartans finished fifth in the nation in scoring defense (62.5 PPG). Prior to UNCG, LePore spent two seasons as a student manager for the Belmont men’s basketball program.  Before moving onto the college ranks LePore also spent two seasons as the assistant varsity boys basketball coach for Centennial High School (Franklin, Tennessee). Guy Shavers – Southwest Guilford High School Boys Basketball Head Coach

Guy Shavers took over Southwest Guilford H.S. in 2008, this year he will be entering his eleventh season as head coach of the Cowboys.  In 2017 his Cowboys were the NCHSAA 4A Champions. Shavers was also awarded the 2016-2017 N.C. District 7 Coach of the Year. Coach Shavers has taken his team to the NCHSAA playoffs nine times at Southwest.  Shavers has been undefeated in conference play twice and has won his conference six times. During his time at Southwest he has amassed over 190 wins, averaging 19 wins a season.

John Shearin – T. Wingate Andrews High School Girls Head Coach

Coach John Shearin won the 2014 NCHSAA 2A Girls State Championship.  That season he was also awarded the North Carolina District VII Coach of the Year.  During his career he has six undefeated conference seasons and six conference titles.  Shearin appeared in three consecutive NCHSAA Final Four regionals (2014-16). Shearin has taken HPA to the state playoffs each year he has been the head coach.  This fall coach will run the ninth annual Quick Preseason Jamboree. The jamboree benefits former Red Raiders player Myleka Quick, who had her career end early due to a car accident.
