According to a recently unsealed indictment in the college basketball pay-for-play scandal, former Louisville head coach Rick Pitino was aware of, and participated in the securing of payments to the family of then recruit Brian Bowen. Pitino, who was fired back on October 15th, has previously been identified as “coach-2” in the original indictment. According to the top paragraph on page 15 of the document that was just unsealed,
“Dawkins explained that while Coach-2 [Pitino] and the University of Louisville were recruiting the student-athlete [Bowen], Dawkins asked Coach-2 [Pitino] to call James Gatto to request that Company-1 [Adidas] provide the money requested by the family of the student-athlete [Bowen], which Coach-2 [Pitino] agreed to do”.
