Pierre Elevated to Director of Video Scouting and Recruiting Operations at Elon

The Elon University men’s basketball team and head coach Billy Taylor announced the promotion of Josh Pierre to the role of Director of Video Scouting and Recruiting Operations on Monday, Sept. 26.

“From the moment I took the job it was clear that Josh Pierre was someone we needed to keep,” said Taylor. “His experience, connections and knowledge quickly identified him as coach on the rise in our profession. Josh and (wife) Erin also fit with the culture of selflessness, accountability, love and toughness here at Elon. I am excited and grateful to move Josh into this new role.”

Pierre begins his fourth season as a member of the Elon men’s basketball staff. Prior to his new role, Pierre served as the program’s video coordinator since 2019-20.

During his time at Elon, Pierre aided in coaching seven players to All-CAA postseason awards including 2019-20 Rookie of the Year Hunter McIntosh. He also assisted in helping the Phoenix defense become one of the top units in the CAA and top-50 nationally during his second year in 2020-21.

The Phoenix has also made strides in the CAA postseason tournament during Pierre’s tenure. Elon advanced to the CAA semifinals round for the first time in 2019-20 before reaching the league’s championship game the following season. During that season, Pierre was also instrumental in the development of eventual NBA G-League Draft Pick Ikenna Ndugba, who was selected to the Greensboro Swarm.

Before coming to Elon, Pierre was on the staff at Mississippi State and helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Tournament in 2018-19 to break a decade-long drought. Additionally, Pierre played a key role in assisting with the development of five eventual NBA players in Quinndary Weatherspoon, Reggie Perry, Robert Woodard, DJ Stewart and Aric Holeman.

Prior to MSU, Pierre began his coaching career at his alma mater, Arkansas State. In the 2016-17 season while serving as a graduate assistant under Grant McCasland, the Red Wolves made a 10-win improvement, marking the second-best turnaround in Division I that year. He was later promoted to Director of Scouting in 2017-18.

Pierre was a four-year letterwinner for the Red Wolves from 2013-16 under head coach John Brady. Arkansas State captured the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Western Division during his freshman season and compiled consecutive 19-win seasons for the first time in 24 years. He competed in 44 games and led the nation in walk-on minutes per game (13.2) during conference play in 2015-16.

Pierre graduated from Arkansas State with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He is a Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Alumni and served as the fraternity’s Spiritual Chair each year as a member. He also was a recipient of the Dr. Warren and Lu L. Nedrow Scholarship for Distinguished Alumni.

Pierre is the son of Butch and Clemmie Pierre. His father possesses more than three decades of coaching experience with stops at LSU, Oklahoma State, N.C. State, Charlotte, Memphis and UTEP. Butch is currently an assistant coach at Wichita State University while his twin brother Joe is currently an assistant coach at Liberty. Josh and his wife Erin currently reside in Burlington.
