Plattsburgh State assistant coach John Konowitz passes away

The Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation mourns the loss of assistant men’s basketball coach John Konowitz, who passed away suddenly on Friday.

Coach Konowitz was a beloved member of the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball program, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for nine seasons. During his tenure on the Cardinals’ bench, Plattsburgh State made four NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and won a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title.

“Coach Konowitz was a friend, mentor and teacher to countless Cardinal Basketball student-athletes over the years,” Plattsburgh State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Howard said. “It’s a tremendously sad day in Cardinal Country, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to Coach Konowitz’s entire family.”
