Randolph-Macon head coach Josh Merkel has announced the addition of Adam Blake to the men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in a position financed by the Hal Nunnally Endowed Fund for Men’s Basketball.
“Adam will bring a high level of enthusiasm and work ethic to our program,” Merkel said. “He will push our players forward in helping them develop both on and off the court. He is a proven winner with NCAA experience and we look forward to the daily impact he will add to our program.”
Blake is a 2015 graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and earned a degree in interdisciplinary studies: education, mathematics and history. Blake played point guard for the Crusaders for four years, helping Capital win a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season titles and one OAC Tournament championship under head coach Damon Goodwin.
A native of Kingston, Ohio, and a 2010 graduate of Logan Elm High School, Blake graduated as the school’s leader in assists for a season and career. The Braves won 64 games in three years under head coach Doug Stiverson, including a school-record 24 victories in 2009 and a berth in the Division 2 State Final Four. Blake was the league and district Player of the Year in 2010.
“I am excited to begin my collegiate coaching career at Randolph-Macon and to join the Yellow Jacket family,” Blake said. “The strong tradition, high standards on and off the floor, as well as the family atmosphere with players, staff, administration and alumni are what make the Yellow Jacket family so special.”
