Florida Southern College men’s basketball head coach Mike Donnelly has announced the addition of Randy Lee as a volunteer assistant coach ahead of the 2024-25 season.
“Randy is a great addition to our staff,” said Donnelly. “Not only is he a well-established and proven college recruiter and coach, but he also has deep ties to Florida Southern and our basketball program. I know Randy’s experience and passion for the game of basketball will be huge asset not only to our coaching staff, but to all players as well.”
Lee joins the men’s basketball staff with two decades of coaching experience, most recently as the head coach at Southeastern University. Joining the Fire in 2015 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Lee was elevated to head coach in 2022 before departing in 2024. While at SEU, Lee had five NAIA Tournament appearances, three regular season conference championships, and three conference tournament championships.
“I am honored and grateful to be joining Coach Donnelly’s staff,” said Lee. “Having grown up around the program, I fully understand the level of success and expectations associated with being a part of this prestigious basketball program. I look forward to complementing a talented coaching staff and being a Moc.”
Between his two stints at Southeastern, Lee was an assistant coach at Polk State College in 2019-20, where he coached the team to a 20+ win season and a number one national ranking for the first time in five years for the program.
Prior to his time at SEU, Lee guided Lake Wales High School to a pair of district titles, and two Elite Eight finishes in the state tournament. In 2014, Lee was named the FACA District Coach of the Year for his efforts.
In addition to his success at the high school ranks, Lee has spent time collegiately in the NCCAA, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division I.
Lee spent three seasons at Tennessee Temple University as the head coach, leading the team to the Regional Final. He also served as head coach at NCAA Division II University of Texas Permian Basin as well as the University of Maine at Machias.
As an assistant coach, Lee spent time at Palm Beach Atlantic, Delaware State, Centenary, and Maine, as well as spending a year at the University of Miami as a graduate assistant.
Lee is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and holds a master’s from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MBA from SEU in 2024. With strong ties to Florida Southern, Lee’s parents are 6th Man Club members, his father Jim a graduate of FSC and one of the founders of the 6th Man Club.
