Lyon College Scots head basketball coach Rodney Mayes announced that Ray Reeves of Calhoun, Georgia has been selected the assistant basketball coaching position.
Reeves took over the assistant basketball duties in June.
“Having known Ray Reeves for the past five years and playing for me at the University of West Georgia and Point University, Ray brings a wealth of experience in the college game with him and a deep desire to impact players’ growth on and off the court,” Mayes said. “He will be an incredible addition to our staff, because of his basketball IQ and ability to build relationships with our players and help them grow as students, athletes and young men.”
Reeves comes to Lyon College as Mayes starts his second season as head coach of the Scots.
“Ray exhibits all the necessary attributes to be a successful coach,” Mayes added. “He will have an immediate impact on our program.”
Reeves graduated high school and played two seasons at the University of West Georgia where he met Mayes. After a year at Young Harris College, he transferred to Point University where Mayes was the assistant.
While at Point University, Reeves averaged 11 points per game and was a 40 percent three-point shooter throughout his college basketball career.
“Coming to Lyon is a blessing,” Reeves said. “Basketball has always been a passion of mine and getting this opportunity to coach and help develop these young me, I something I am excited about and looking forward to. I am ready to get started.”
