According to a report from Emily Jacobs, Auburn Head Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl is currently “leaning against” running for Senate. There has been much speculation over the past few months that the outspoken coach would run to replace current Senator Tommy Tuberville who is running for Governor of Alabama.

Sources close to Pearl tell me he is unlikely to enter the contest, though they stress that the Auburn coach has not officially decided against running yet. Pearl wants to give himself a few more weeks in case he were to change his mind.

Speaking to reporters last Thursday, Pearl stopped short of dismissing the rumors of a potential Senate run but offered more detail than in his past interviews.

“It’s certainly something that I had considered,” Pearl commented during the Mike Slive Foundation’s Blue Shoe Ball. “It’s something I thought a great deal about, but obviously I’m here today and I’m in practice and I’ve got practice tomorrow.”

Auburn kicks-off their basketball season in just over a month as they host Oklahoma State in an exhibition game in Birmingham, AL on October 15th.
