According to a Pete Thamel / Jeff Borzello report, Iowa will hire Ben McCollum as their new head basketball coach.
In his lone season at Drake, McCollum led the Bulldogs to a 31-4 record, a Missouri Valley Conference title, and an NCAA tournament upset over Missouri before falling to Texas Tech in the second round. Taking over after Darian DeVries’ departure, McCollum rebuilt the roster with several former players from his highly successful 15-year tenure at Division II Northwest Missouri State, including MVC Player of the Year Bennett Stirtz. At NWMSU, he turned the program into a powerhouse, winning four national titles (2017, 2019, 2021, 2022) and making the tournament every year from 2014 to 2024.
More on this once it becomes official.
