According to a report from CBS News Chicago, five Concordia University Chicago basketball players were hospitalized following a “particularly high-intensity, collegiate-level circuit training” practice last Saturday. The report also states that head coach Steve Kollar has been “benched”, and assistant coach Rashaan Surles has been named as the acting head coach.
Concordia’s athletic director Pete Gnan told CBS News Chicago, “It has been alleged by some that the intensity and difficulty of Saturday’s practice (12/31) was a direct consequence of the broken curfew earlier in the week.” The team had played two games in California on 12/28 and 12/29, where they suffered their first two losses of the year.
The team’s game on Tuesday Lakeland University was postponed, as has today’s contest vs Concordia University Wisconsin. No word yet on any further postponements.
