REPORT: Indiana set to hire Darian DeVries as new Head Basketball Coach

According to multiple reports, Indiana is targeting West Virginia’s Darian DeVries as its next head coach, with a deal expected to be finalized soon.

DeVries, who led West Virginia to a 19-13 record in his lone season, took over last March after Josh Eilert’s interim stint following Bob Huggins’ resignation. Despite his team’s solid performance, the Mountaineers were left out of the NCAA tournament. DeVries originally signed a five-year deal with WVU, and Indiana will have to cover a buyout of approximately $6.15 million, which includes his remaining contract and other expenses related to his hiring from Drake.

Before joining West Virginia, DeVries coached Drake for six seasons, amassing a 150-55 record and leading the Bulldogs to three NCAA tournament appearances. His tenure included multiple Missouri Valley Conference championships and consistent 20-win seasons. He previously spent two decades as an assistant at Creighton under Dana Altman and Greg McDermott. At Indiana, he replaces Mike Woodson, who is stepping down after four seasons. The Hoosiers, historically a powerhouse with five national championships, have struggled with tournament success, making just three deep runs since 2002. Notably, DeVries’ son, Tucker, a two-time Missouri Valley Player of the Year, could follow his father to Indiana if granted a medical redshirt.
