According to a report by the Arizona Daily Sun, Jack Murphy will remain as the head coach at Northern Arizona. There had been a ton of speculation here, especially since new AD Mike Marlow took over in mid-January, and the Lumberjacks suffered through a 5-27 season – their second five win season in three years.
Marlow told the Daily Sun: “I spent a lot of time observing and assessing the program, and keeping at the forefront of my mind our department, our coaches and our university. At the end of the day, I was very encouraged by the positive and productive meetings that Jack and I had, and I am optimistic about the future.” Marlow also said, “We talked about how the department itself is supporting the men’s basketball program in a variety of ways. We talked about any needs or planned changes he thought they might need and others I thought worthy of consideration. We talked about his staff and how they were working fluidly as a team or not.”
Murphy’s $185,400/yr. deal runs through 2020. He is now 68-128 in his six seasons with his best year in 2014-15 when he led the Lumberjacks to a 23-15 mark.
