REPORT: LIU to fire Kellogg, targeting G-League Ignite’s Strickland as new head coach

According to a report from CBSSports.com, Long Island University intends to fire head coach Derek Kellogg, and pursue G-League Ignite head coach Rod Strickland as his replacement.

Kellogg has gone 74-74 (.500) in his five seasons at LIU, including a 16-14 (12-6 NEC) mark this past season. He had previously served as the head coach at his alma mater UMass, where he went 155-137 (.531) from 2008-17. Kellogg also spent eight seasons as an assistant on John Calipari’s staff at Memphis.

Strickland is a Bronx native who was a first round pick of the Knicks in the 1998 NBA Draft (#19), and played in the league from 1998-2005. He also worked for Calipari and both Memphis and Kentucky. Strickland has been serving as the program director for the G-League’s Ignite since 2018.

More on this when it becomes official.
