According to a report from Jeff Goodman, Marty Simmons will be named as the next head basketball coach at Eastern Illinois. Simmons, the former head coach at Evansville, has been the special assistant to the head coach at Clemson since 2018. He holds a career record of 283-247 (.534), with stops at UE, SIUE, and Wartburg College.
Simmons is an Illinois native, who was named Mr. Basketball in the state in 1983. He played collegiately at Indiana, before transferring to Evansville where he wrapped up his playing career.
He will replace Jay Spoonhour, who did not have contract renewed.
