According to a report from KMAV & 99KMSR Radio, NAIA Mayville State (ND) head men’s basketball coach Darren Tighe has resigned effective immediately.

The report quotes Director of Athletics Jay DeCann as saying, “We thank Coach Tighe for his service to Mayville State and wish him well.”

Tighe was in his sixth season at Mayville, where he wraps up his tenure with a 92-42 record. He led the Comets to 3 NSAA Tournament titles, 3 NAIA National Tournament appearances, one NSAA regular season conference championship. Tighe was also named as the 2018 North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sports Writers Coach of the Year.

The report also states that officials expect to name an interim head men’s basketball coach soon. A search to fill the position on a permanent basis will follow.

The Comets, who were picked 2nd in the NSAA pre-season poll, are currently 0-2.
