REPORT: McMillan expected to be named Head Basketball Coach at Texas A&M

According to multiple reports, including one from Pete Thamel, Texas Tech is expected to hire Samford’s Bucky McMillan as their new Head Basketball Coach. According to the reports, the sides are finalizing a five-year deal.

McMillan just wrapped up his fourth season at Samford where he led the Bulldogs to a 22-11 record and a spot in the NIT. In 2023-24, McMillan’s squad went 29-6, won the SoCon, and made an NCAA Tournament appearance. Overall, McMillan has compiled a 99-52 (.656) in Birmingham.

McMillan came to Samford after serving as the head coach at Mountain Brook High School for 12 seasons. McMillan has led the program to unprecedented success, reaching the state finals in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the team won the title in the state’s highest classification in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
