REPORT: Miami’s Larranaga intends to retire

According to multiple reports, including one from early this morning from the Miami Herald, University of Miami head basketball coach Jim Larranaga intends to announce his retirement later today.

Larranaga, who will turn 75 in October, is in his 14th season at Miami. He has also been the head coach at George Mason (1997-2011), Bowling Green (1986-1997), and AIC (1977-79). The 40+ year coaching veteran holds a 744-508 (.594) career record, including a 4-8 mark with the Hurricanes this season.

During his career, he led both Miami and George Mason to the Final Four. Larranaga has also been named as the Associated Press, Naismith, USBWA and Henry Iba National Coach of the Year, twice was both the ACC and USBWA District Coach of the Year and was the 2013 NABC District Coach of the Year.

Assistant Bill Courtney is expected to be named interim coach.
