University of Minnesota head basketball coach will return to coach the Gophers next season, according to a report in the Twin Cities Pioneer Press.

There has been much speculation over the future of the 7th year head coach as the Gophers struggled through a 15-16 (8-12 Big Ten) season. During his tenure at Minnesota, Pitino is 127-108 but just 48-82 in the Big Ten.

Pitino is currently under contract through the 2023-24 season, with an average yearly salary of $2.2m. His buyout at the end of April 2020 would have been a reported $2m, and will decrease yearly after that.
