Rhode Island has fired coach Jim Baron after the Rams struggled through a 7-24 season and failed to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament. In 11 years with the Rams, Baron finished with a 184-165 record but never was able to lead Rhode Island to the NCAA Tournament. He had two years remaining on his contract, worth about $600,000 per season, according to The New York Times. A national search for Rhode Island’s next men’s basketball coach will commence immediately. The official job posting will occur early this coming week, with a goal of naming a new coach in early April.
