Rice Men’s Basketball Names Troy Hammel as Video Coordinator

Rice head basketball coach Scott Pera announced the hiring of Troy Hammel as Video Coordinator, Monday afternoon.

“Today I am announcing the hiring of Troy Hammel as our new Video Coordinator,” said Pera. Troy has worked his way up the collegiate coaching ranks by being a Graduate Assistant at UC Riverside and most recently an Assistant Coach at Colorado Christian University. Troy fits everything that we look for as a member of our staff and a representative of Rice University.  He is humble, hardworking and intelligent.  He will work great with our assistant coaches in game prep and with our team in pushing this program forward.”

Hammel spent last year as an Assistant Coach at Colorado Christian University. Prior to CCU, Hammel served as a graduate assistant at UC Riverside where he helped with player development, statistical organization and video breakdown while co-directing the team’s summer camp.

Hammel played at Merrimack College where he was a three-year starter. He ranks 28th all-time in school history in scoring with 1,312 points. He is also the Warriors career leader in three-point field goal percentage (43.2%) and free throw percentage (88.3%), while starting his final 79 games.

Hammel earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2016 while earning Dean’s List and Cum Laude academic honors. In 2019, he completed his Master’s degree in Education from UC Riverside.
