Rich Corsetto Named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Bronx CC

Bronx Community College has named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Hall of Famer Rich Corsetto as its head men’s basketball coach, director of athletics Ryan McCarthy announced.

“We’re thrilled for Rich to join our department and lead our program to new heights,” McCarthy said. “His basketball pedigree speaks for itself, and we look forward to Rich leading our young men to reach their potential on and off the court.”

Corsetto accumulated a 435-188 record while leading two New Jersey programs, Hudson County Community College and Passaic County Community College, to national prominence.

“Through hard work and determination, I want our student-athletes to be successful on and off the court and to succeed in life,” said Corsetto, owner of over 700 wins as a junior college and high school head coach. “I also want to build a culture of accountability, trust, and togetherness.”

Between 1990-96, he led PCCC to two NJCAA National Tournaments, and in 2005 he coach PCCC to a fourth-place finish nationally. Four seasons as a head coach at North Arlington (NJ) High School followed his storied junior college coaching career.

Corsetto was thrice names NJCAA Region XIX Coach of the Year (1991, 1993, 2005). He was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in its Class of 2013.

Before becoming a head coach, he served as an assistant coach at Upsala College, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), and Bloomfield College.

As a collegian, he excelled at his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi, as a basketball and baseball student-athlete. He was inducted into the Golden Eagles Hall of Fame in 1997.

Prior to Southern Miss, Corsetto excelled as a junior college student-athlete, leading the nation in scoring with 38.2 points per game at Hartford (MD) County Community College. He was inducted into the HCCC Hall of Fame in 1992.

Corsetto takes over for Sean Kelly, who went 37-21 in his final two seasons in the Bronx.  Remaining on the Broncos staff are Kelly assistants Lamont Watson and Warren Thompson.

“In addition to bringing on a coach, leader, and person of Rich’s caliber, we’re excited to keep Lamont and Warren on staff,” McCarthy added. “The continuity, familiarity, and work ethic they bring is invaluable.”
