I can confirm that rising D1 West Florida intends to hire Tanner Smith as their new head basketball coach.
Smith has been the associate head coach at App State for the past three seasons. The former standout at Clemson has also worked at Stephen F. Austin, Charlotte, Mississippi State, and Kennesaw State.
West Florida announced yesterday that they were leaving D2 and will become a D1 member of the ASUN next season.
Smith would replace Justin Mann, who was released earlier in the week.
This move is expected to be made official shortly.
