Head coach Johnny Tauer has rounded out his St. Thomas Men’s Basketball coaching staff with the addition of two familiar names in local basketball circles.
Twin Cities native Cameron Rundles comes on board as an assistant coach, while former Tommie player and assistant Josh Rodenbiker takes on an expanded role as Tauer’s Director of Men’s Basketball Operations.
Earlier this spring, Tauer announced the additions of Mike Maker and Gameli Ahelegbe as full-time members of his coaching staff. St. Thomas starts its NCAA Division I athletics chapter in the 2021-22 season, with men’s basketball one of 18 Tommie teams competing in the Summit League.
Cameron Rundles
Coach Rundles comes to St. Thomas after an outstanding prep, collegiate and professional playing career. After graduating from Minneapolis DeLaSalle High, Cam attended the University of Montana and played two years with the Grizzlies before transferring to Wofford College. During his two years playing at Wofford, the Terriers made a national breakthrough with their first ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and followed that up with another NCAA bid in 2011. Cam later enjoyed a 10-year professional career overseas, and has also coached one season with Wofford. Cam and his wife Paula, have two children — Camille (6) and Cam (4).
“We are thrilled to welcome Cameron Rundles into the St. Thomas Basketball family,” Tauer said. “Coach Cam is the consummate winner – he is tough, smart, and unselfish. During his prolific playing career, he led DeLaSalle High School to the 2006 Minnesota AAA state championship. He played out west at Montana two seasons and closed out his career in the southeast with two successful seasons at Wofford, which made its first ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and followed that up with another NCAA bid in 2011. Cam and his teammates and coaches are largely credited with helping Wofford Basketball earn national prominence. He later playing professionally for a decade overseas, earning a reputation for his leadership, communication, and teamwork.
“Cam is one of the most genuine and passionate people around, and his career as a professional and his infectious personality will enable him to connect with players and recruits equally well.”
Josh Rodenbiker
A former standout athlete from Fargo, N.D., Josh Rodenbiker played two years in the Tommie Men’s Basketball program before becoming a student assistant coach. With his unselfish manner, knowledge and enthusiasm, he contributed to the program’s national success over the past several seasons. In his role as the Director of Operations, Josh will help coordinate several administrative tasks off the court. Josh and his fiancé Blaire, also a St. Thomas employee, have a 2021 wedding date set on their calendar.
“We are excited to name Josh Rodenbiker as our Director of Basketball Operations,” Tauer said. “Josh is a tireless worker, loyal to St. Thomas, and has been a huge part of our success. Josh played two years in our program before becoming a student assistant. After graduating here in 2015 with a degree in Psychology, Josh continued to contribute as an assistant, helping us compile a total of nine first-place MIAC finishes in his 10 seasons with the Tommies, including our 2016 national championship.
“Josh is passionate about basketball, committed to excellence, and is a truly outstanding person. In his role as the Director of Operations, Josh will help coordinate countless aspects of our program as we transition to Division I. His passion and attention to detail will be invaluable as he helps integrate all facets of Tommie Basketball.”
