Russo named Assistant Basketball Coach at Northern Arizona

NAU Basketball and Head Coach Shane Burcar announced Tim Russo as the newest assistant coach for the Lumberjacks ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

“We are excited to add Tim to our staff and welcome him to Flagstaff. Coming from a program like UCONN gives him instant credibility and his drive to do what it takes to learn and grow the craft of coaching is going to take him far,” Head Coach Shane Burcar said.

Russo grew up around the game of basketball, knowing quickly after high school that he wanted to coach, he made his impact as a student assistant coach for the Division II program at the University of Tampa for the Men’s Basketball program from 2017-2021. In 2021 Russo graduated with his bachelor’s degree in sports management.

Russo’s next journey came for the powerhouse program at UCONN where he joined the basketball program as a Graduate Assistant. In 2023, the Huskies made their run in the NCAA tournament, claiming victories against Iona, Saint Mary’s, Arkansas, Gonzaga, Miami, and San Diego State to claim the championship title for the fifth time in program history.

Russo is the son of Jeanne and Chris Russo, and has three siblings, Kiera, Colin, and Patrick.

Russo will join Burcar, Gary Bell Jr., and Ben Johnson ahead of the 2023-24 season as the Jacks look to avenge their Big Sky Tournament run.
