Rutgers has narrowed their AD search to three candidates. They are former Rutgers football player Tim Pernetti, who now works for CBS sports, North Carolina-Wilmington athletic director Kelly Mehrtens and Akron athletic director Mack Rhoades. Why is this important? Most likely the first order of business will be for the new AD to deal with the future of basketball coach Fred Hill. The Scarlet Knights are 10-17 (1-13 Big East) this season and 31-56 in Hill’s 2-plus seasons at Rutgers.

The announcement on the hiring of the new AD will most likely be made on Thursday. With the Scarlet Knights on track to miss the Big East Tournament (March 10-14), I’d look for some type of statement of regarding this situation around then. If they are going to make a change, that’s the week to do it.
