Bill Zasowski, the associate head coach for men’s basketball at Rutgers University-Newark, has been named interim head coach for women’s basketball by Director of Athletics Mark Griffin.
Zasowski will oversee all functions of the women’s basketball program and is the main contact for the team until further notice in place of head coach Kevin Morris who is on leave.
The Kean University graduate has been the right-hand man for head coach Joe Loughran during the unprecedented success of the Scarlet Raider men’s basketball program over the past 13 seasons.
He first joined Loughran’s staff in June of 2002, helping recruit and tutor the foundation for the Scarlet Raiders’ 11 straight winning regular seasons with eight NJAC Championship Tournament showings, eight ECAC Metro Championship berths and the first two NCAA appearances in program history.
In 2005-06, the Zasowski guided Ocean County College to a 20-9 record and a Garden State Athletic Conference championship in his first head coaching experience. He garnered Region 19 Coach of the Year honors from his junior college peers before returning to Loughran’s staff the next season.
