Rutgers University head men’s basketball coach Eddie Jordan announced today that Monte Shubik will serve as the program’s director of player services. A native of Stoystown, Pa., Shubik arrives “On the Banks” after working as assistant coach/video coordinator with the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers.
Shubik, 33, worked 10 seasons with the 76ers, adding the title of assistant coach in 2012-13. In the role, he was an on-court assistant during practice and assisted head coach Doug Collins in offensive game preparation.
Shubik first joined the 76ers as a video intern in 2003, was promoted to assistant video coordinator, and was eventually named head video coordinator in 2006. The 76ers made five playoff appearances during his tenure, while Jrue Holiday (2012-13), Andre Iguodala (2011-12) and Allen Iverson (2003-06, 2009-10) earned All-Star recognition. He worked closely with Jordan in 2009-10, when he served as the club’s head coach. Shubik assisted the coaching staff with all video needs related to the team and prepared pre/post-game review edits and scout tapes for opponents, while overseeing the entire video department.
