Rumors are swirling around the impending dismissal of Samford head coach Bennie Seltzer, and names of possible replacements are starting to fly. Three in particular have gained some momentum over the past 48 hours. I have heard that current assistant Scott Padgett could be considered for the position. Padgett played in the NBA for eight seasons after a stellar career at Kentucky. He has been at Samford since 2012. Player defections have been an issue, but Padgett does have some support. I have also heard that East Tennessee State head coach Murray Bartow, and Alabama-Birmingham assistant Rob Eshan could be in play here as well. I would assume that I will hear more once Seltzer’s dismissal is made official (sounds like the hammer may drop this weekend).
