After leading one of the region’s top programs over the last decade, California University of Pennsylvania announced the hiring of Danny Sancomb as head men’s basketball coach on Friday afternoon.
Sancomb boasts a 216-115 record (.653) as a head coach over the previous 11 seasons at Wheeling Jesuit while playing as members of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) and Mountain East Conference (MEC). The Cardinals captured the 2018 MEC Tournament Championship after advancing to the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship the previous season.
Under Sancomb, Wheeling Jesuit was ranked No. 1 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Top 25 poll in recent years and featured the 2017-18 Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA) National Player of the Year in Haywood Highsmith. The Cardinals recorded at least 21 wins in each of the last four years under Sancomb with the program tallying 100 victories during that span.
There will be an introductory news conference on Thursday, June 21, in the North Wing of the Convocation Center at 1 p.m.
