Sancomb releases statement on dismissal from Wheeling Jesuit

Danny Sancomb, who was fired on Monday as the head coach at Wheeling Jesuit has released the following statement:

I want to thank all of my players, past and present, their families, our students and faculty. I have had a wonderful run at Wheeling Jesuit and enjoyed my experiences as a student athlete, coach and athletic director. I stayed at Wheeling Jesuit despite its financial difficulties and cutbacks because I love the school.

I want to be careful to not hurt Wheeling Jesuit because this is my alma mater and I love the school. My dissatisfaction is with this ridiculous decision. I assure you there are no bad facts. Instead, the University has used an alleged rule technicality to dismiss me.

I’m being careful with my words because I love Wheeling Jesuit, but some administrators are making bad decisions. I am obviously unhappy with those decision-makers, including the new President of the University. There is a place where the facts can be developed and persons responsible identified and I think that would be the most professional way to address this issue and cause the least amount of fallout to my alma mater.

Thanks,
Danny Sancomb

Sancomb led WJU to a 26-6 record this past season, and captured the Mountain East Championship. He racked up 216 wins in his 11 seasons at his alma mater.

The school still has not given a reason for his dismissal.
