Sanz departs Gonzaga Basketball Staff; Expected to land at North Carolina

Gonzaga Assistant Coach and Director of Basketball Operations Jorge Sanz announced his departure from the Zags staff today with a post on X:

According to a report from the Spokesman-Review, Sanz, who had been on the Zags staff for the past eight seasons, is headed to North Carolina where he will join Michael Malone’s new staff.

The native of Spain spent time at Florida Atlantic before hooking on at Gonzaga back in 2018. He began his career in Spokane as the Video Coordinator before being elevated to DBO and later assistant coach.

Sanz holds the Entrenador Superior certification—the highest coaching qualification in Spanish basketball. He has served as an Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator for various Spanish national youth teams since 2018, helping guide the U17 squad to a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA World Cup and the U18 team to silver at the 2023 European Championships.

More on this move once it becomes official.
