A few Saturday updates…
• INDIANA – Athletic Director Fred Glass has given head coach Tom Crean a vote of confidence. Glass sent an email to the Indianapolis Star which included the following: "Coach Crean has five years on his contract, I don’t expect him to go anywhere, and I don’t want him to go anywhere." Indiana went 20-14 this season, but struggled late in the season after starting 15-4. Crean has compiled a 121-111 record in his seven seasons as a Hoosier.
• CHARLOTTE – New head coach Mark Price is already starting to assemble his staff. Oklahoma State assistant Chris Ferguson and Appalachian State coach Houston Fancher will be his first two hires. Ferguson had spent the past seven season at OSU and also spent eight seasons with Buzz Peterson at Tennessee. Fancher spent nine seasons as the head coach at Appalachian State (137-136), and was most recently and assistant at UNC-Wilmington.
• NEVADA – Details of new head coach Eric Musselman’s contract were released yesterday by the Nevada Board of Regents. The former NBA head coach inked a five-year pact that will be worth a total of $2 million.
• SOUTHERN ILLINOIS-EDWARDSVILLE – The search to replace Lennox Forrester at SIUE appears to be in the final stages. I have now heard that they are down to two candidates, and a decision could be announced by early next week. I hope to have more on this shortly.
