What a CRAZY day today…3rd edition of the dirt…
• ARIZONA STATE: Trent Johnson’s name has been very “hot” here over the last few days. The current TCU head coach is familiar with the PAC-10 – he spent 4 seasons as the head coach at Stanford before moving on the LSU. Former St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin is also getting some play here, but Johnson’s names is the hottest right now.
• SOUTHERN ILLINOIS-EDWARDSVILLE: I mentioned that they were down to two candidates earlier today. I have now heard from multiple sources that Cal assistant Jon Harris is in the mix here. Harris is an Edwardsville native who played at Marquette. He has been with Cuonzo Martin at Missouri State, Tennessee, and Cal.
• SAN DIEGO: Two new names in the mix here. I have heard from a very good source that San Diego State assistant Justin Hutson and New Mexico associate head coach Lamont Smith are both involved. It sounds like Hutson has interviewed, and Smith will interview tomorrow. Hutson has had two separate stints as an assistant at SDSU, and has also been the associate head coach at UNLV. Smith is a USD alum who has also been an assistant at Washington, Saint Louis, Arizona State, and St. Mary’s.
