Schield Named Assistant Coach at Vassar College

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Mee has announced the hiring of Kevin Schield as the new assistant coach for the Vassar College Men’s Basketball team. Schield joins the staff following coaching stops with UMKC and Lawrence University (Wisc.).

Schield spent last season as the Chief of Staff at Kansas City as he was in charge of budgeting operations, team travel and administrative needs while assisting with scheduling.

From 2020-22, Schield was an assistant coach at Lawrence under Head Coach Casey Korn. In the 2021-22 season, the Vikings posted a 9-7 record in Midwest Conference play, their first in-conference winning season since the 2013-14 season. In addition, star guard Brad Sendell was named Midwest Conference Player of the Year, as well as earning nods to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Region 9 Second Team.

Prior to his time at Lawrence, Schield was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Sturgeon Bay HS. While there, he coached under Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame coach, the late Jim Benesh. He spent two seasons in this role, posting a 28-19 overall record and a 21-10 mark in conference play.

Schield graduated from Arizona State University in 2014 with his Bachelor’s of Political Science and minors in History and Sustainability. Following his time at ASU, he attended the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.

Schield was born in Logan, Utah, and graduated from Sturgeon Bay HS in 2010, where he also played under Coach Benesh.
