Seattle University head men’s basketball coach Cameron Dollar has announced that Amadou "Pape" Koundoul will join the staff of the Redhawk program as an assistant coach.
Koundoul was an assistant coach under Ron Everhart at Duquesne University during the 2011-12 season, working with the low post players, putting together the team’s offensive strategy, and helping with the program’s recruiting efforts. The Dukes were 16-15 last year, including victories over Akron, Penn State, George Mason, and Dayton.
Koundoul also served as an assistant coach at UC Irvine (2010-11) and Centenary College of Louisiana (2009-10). He had been a head coach at Summit College Prep (2007-08) and an assistant coach at Stoneridge Prep (2006-07), both located in Simi Valley, Calif. In 2008-09, Koundoul was a French and physical education instructor as well as a basketball coach at Saint Stanislaus College in Bay St. Louis, Miss.
This summer, Koundoul has returned to his native Senegal to help the national basketball team. He was the captain of Team Africa during the 2002 Global Games held in Dallas, Texas.
