Washington assistant coaches Cameron Dollar and Jim Shaw are emerging as the top candidates to replace Joe Callero at Seattle. Shaw is a Washington native (Chimacum) and has been an assistant at UW for the past 5 seasons. Dollar has been at Washington for the past 7 season and starred at UCLA. Seattle Director of Athletics Bill Hogan has said that he wants to have the next coach in place by April 15th. This job could be a sleeping giant. Seattle is nearing the end of its transition process from DII to DI. After playing a mixed schedule (DI’s, DII’s, and DIII’s) last season, Seattle will play all Division I schools in 2009-10. With some games scheduled to be played in Key arena (the Sonics old home), and a great city to sell, the right guy could really make a name for himself here. Our sources tell us that over 40 applications have been received and that Hogan had some “informal” discussions in Detroit. I would put my money on Cameron Dollar at this point – he’s a young guy who would be a perfect fit for the Redhawks.
