Sheehan added to La Salle staff

Matt Sheehan has been named director of player development/assistant strength and conditioning coach for basketball at La Salle, it was announced today. Sheehan spent three seasons with the men’s basketball program as a letter winner and graduate manager from 2010-13.

"I have no doubt that Matt will help our players improve physically and mentally," Giannini said. "He brings an astute mind, a love of La Salle and a high level of energy. This summer he has been training and testing for a variety of physical and mental skills. We have already seen measurable improvements from all our players. We are excited about our success in player development and what Matt adds to that."

The Havertown, Pa. native (Episcopal Academy) earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from La Salle in 2011 and a master’s degree in education in 2013. He spent the past season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at the Valley Forge Military Academy.

"I am excited to return to La Salle and work with our student-athletes in this new role," Sheehan said. "My hope is that my energy, enthusiasm and passion in the weight room will help our teams reach their goals this season."

He arrived at La Salle as a football player in 2007 before walking onto the basketball program in 2010-11. Sheehan appeared in 18 games during his career and helped the Explorers to an NIT appearance in 2011-12.

Sheehan played a key role in La Salle’s 2013 trip to the Sweet 16 as a graduate manager, working with the post players and assisting the operations staff.
