Trinity College men’s basketball announces the hiring of Tyler Simms (Bourne, Mass.) as an assistant coach. Simms, who captained Trinity’s 2008 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship squad, comes to his alma mater after spending the last two seasons as director of basketball operations at Division I Siena College in New York. He replaces Brian Baudinet who left to take an assistant coach position at Division II American International College. The Bantams, under the direction of James Cosgrove (3rd Season), finished the 2012-13 season with an overall record of 9-15 and finished 10th in the NESCAC with a 2-8 conference mark.
Simms began his coaching career as an assistant at Wilbraham and Monson Academy in 2008-09, and served as an assistant coach at Division II Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa. from 2009 to 2011 prior. Graduating from Trinity with a bachelor’s degree in educational studies and owning a master’s degree from Mercyhurst in organizational leadership, Simms helped the Bantams post a 79-25 record in his playing career with NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008. He received the team’s John Kelley Award for commitment and sacrifice to the program, and was named to the NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
