SIUE extends Barone through 2023-24

SIUE Director of Athletics Tim Hall has announced a contract extension for men’s basketball Head Coach Brian Barone which will take him through the 2023-24 season.

Barone’s current contract runs through the 2022-23 season, with an option for the 2023-24 season. Hall said the extra year provides some clarity to current student-athletes and potential recruits.

“Brian and his staff are doing things the right way,” Hall said. “They have progressed on the court, excelled academically and have brought in the best recruiting class in our history. This extension assures them of four seasons going forward.”

“Being the Head Basketball Coach at SIUE is an absolute honor,” Barone said. “Building a winning program is no small task, and there are no short cuts that will be taken. Under the leadership of Tim Hall, it has been a team effort in working to get our program to where it should be. I am thankful to our team and staff who work hard to help grow our program every day. Our goal is to build a consistent winner on and off the court.”

Barone’s first season at the helm included a historic first-ever win at Belmont among five Ohio Valley Conference victories.

“I have often said that belief is one of the most powerful graces that can be bestowed upon another person,” Barone continued. “I appreciate the belief that Chancellor Randy Pembrook and Tim Hall have shown in me. My family is honored to call the SIUE community home.”
