Small College Search Updates

Some updates on current small college searches…

UNION COLLEGE (NY)

I have heard that Union College (NY) is down to as few as four candidates to replace Bob Montana. The names that I have heard are:

• Pete Durr – Assistant coach Union College. Has been an assistant at Union for three seasons. Also worked as an assistant at Utica.

• Aaron Galletta – Head coach Lasell College. Graduated from Union as the program’s all-time leading scorer in 2002 with 1,949 career points. Is 91-99 in 7 seasons at Lasell.

• Chris Murphy – Assistant coach Emory. Another former Union player. Spent two seasons as an assistant at Union after graduation. Has been at Emory since 2009.

• Jamie Snyder-Fair – Assistant coach Yale. Has been at Yale for the past three seasons – before that, he was a DIII assistant at Washington and Lee, and Vassar. Played at Colby College.

UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON (WVa)

With Mark Downey’s departure to West Alabama a few weeks ago, the search for his replacement at Charleston has picked up steam. Three names that I have heard here are:

• Kent McBride – Head coach Concord University. Has compiled a 33-23 record in his two seasons at Concord (WVa). Has also been an assistant at Glenville St. (WVa), and West Virginia Wesleyan.

• Dwaine Osborne – Head coach University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Has spent the past four seasons at UTPB. Spent seven years at Glenville St (WVa) prior to his time at UTPB – 4 as the head coach, three as an assistant.

• Bob Williams – Head coach West Virginia University Tech. Another former Glenville St. head coach (1997-2002). Has spent the past 11 seasons at WVU Tech.

LAWSON STATE CC (AL)

In my last “Small College Search Update” blog (7/11/13 – http://hoopdirt.com/blog/9c1b3fb8/small-college-search-updat…), I mentioned the two finalists at Lawson State CC. I have now heard from multiple sources that the choice is Matt “Mike” Smith. He was most recently an assistant at Arkansas Pine Bluff, and has also been a DI assistant at Kennesaw State, Southeastern Louisiana, Jacksonville State, and Centenary (LA). The official announcement is expected shortly.
