Here are some updates on four small college searches that are currently underway…
• With the departure of Chris Beard to Angelo State, the search at McMurry (TX) is in full swing. AD Ron Holmes is now looking for his fourth coach in the past four seasons (Matt Garnett – 2010-11, JD Isler- 2011-12, Chris Beard 2012-13). This will has been a very hot job – even with all of the transition, McMurry is averaging over 20 wins per season over the past three seasons. I have heard that Beard will be taking assistant Cinco Boone with him to Angelo State. Some of the names that I’ve heard so far are: Eastern New Mexico associate head coach Stott Carter, Howard College (TX) head coach Mark Adams, and Lamar assistant Clif Carroll.
• The search is also ongoing at Palm Beach Atlantic to replace former head coach Terry Primm. I have heard that there are a bunch of Florida guys involved here. Some of the names that have come up are, Lynn University assistant Justin Furr, Barry University assistant Ryan Saunders, Maryville (TN) assistant Raul Placeres, and Florida Southern assistant Tom Church.
• With Jeff Price not getting the Southern Alabama gig, he now becomes the leader at Lynn University. Price built a dynasty at Lynn from 1993-1999 (134-44) – he has also been the head coach at Georgia Southern and West Virginia Wesleyan. He took over as the interim head coach at USA when Ronnie Arrow retired in December. I have also heard that Saunders and Placeres are also involved here, but they are probably not happy that Price didn’t get the Southern Alabama job!
• Lyon CoIlege (AR) head coach Kevin Jenkins has moved up to assume the role of Director of Athletics. I have started to hear a few names as possible replacements. The three names that have come up the most are current Lyon assistant Matt Creamer, former Fairleigh Dickinson assistant Damon Francis, and Shawnee CC (IL) head coach John Sparks.
