Conor Smith will begin his first season as an assistant coach with the
Hunter College men’s basketball team during the 2019-20 campaign.
Smith arrives on the Upper East Side after serving as an assistant coach
at Allegheny College for the past two seasons. During his time at
Allegheny, Smith served as the recruiting coordinator, while coaching
Jordan Rawls to a First-Team All-Conference nod and Brian Roberts to an
Honorable Mention All-Conference honor.
Prior to his time at Allegheny, Smith was an assistant coach for the
men’s basketball team at New Paltz, handling multiple responsibilities
in all aspects of the program. During the 2016-17 season Smith took
charge of recruiting, scouting opponents, editing film and leading
individual workouts for post players.
Smith’s coaching career began at his alma mater NYU as assistant during
the 2015-16 campaign, where the Violets finished 21-6 and earned a spot
in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
In addition to his time on three different collegiate staffs, Smith also
received coaching experience at various camps across the country. He is
the founder of Go The Distance Training LLC, which specializes in
basketball and strength and conditioning training.
Smith graduated from NYU in 2015 with a degree in anthropology. Joining
the basketball team as a walk-on during his sophomore season, Smith
evolved into a three-year letterwinner, and served as team captain
during his senior season of 2014-15. The Violets finished over .500 in
all three seasons, culminating with a 19-9 record and a trip to the ECAC
Metro finals in his senior year.
