After 11 seasons as the Northland College Men’s Basketball head coach Scott Sorenson announces his departure.
When Sorenson took over as head coach for the LumberJacks in 2013, the team had just finished 2-22 on the season. In his first five seasons, the Jacks ended with a better record than the year before and reached the .500 mark, in the 2016-17 season, the best record since the 1996 season. The Jacks finished 10-6 in the UMAC landing a spot in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time in years. The successful season earned Sorenson UMAC coach of the year and attracted more recruits maintaining a roster of 18.
“I am extremely grateful for my time spent at Northland College and am forever thankful for the opportunities Northland has given me over the years, specifically all the relationships I’ve been fortunate to have cultivated during my 11+ years,” Sorenson said. “I cannot thank the student-athletes, alumni, staff, faculty, and administrators enough for the positive influence they’ve had on me over my time at the College.”
Along with his coaching duties, Sorenson became the Assistant Director of Athletics. He helped with compliance to ensure all sports would run smoothly at Northland College.
President Dayton expressed gratitude, stating, “Scott Sorenson‘s impact on Northland College and the basketball program has been notable. His dedication to coaching will leave a memorable mark on our community. We extend our best wishes as he embarks on this new chapter, and we thank him for his commitment to the College.
Sorenson will be leaving before the 2023-24 season starts and will be a part of the University of Dubuque’s Men’s Basketball program.
