Jordan Surenkamp has been appointed the University of South Alabama men’s basketball program’s director of operations by head coach Matthew Graves after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant.
In his previous position, Surenkamp was responsible for overseeing the student-manager staff, assisting with film breakdowns and downloading, coordinating the filming of practices and games, and helped with scouting reports. On the road, he aided with travel plans, and set up practice and shootaround times.
In his new role, he will have an elevated role coordinating travel, oversee the basketball budget, purchase equipment and apparel, assist with marketing, promotions and community service events for the program and continue to act as a liaison with the athletic academic services department.
“I am very excited to have Jordan join are coaching staff in an administrative role,” Graves said. “He worked very diligently in his two years as a graduate assistant and showed the passion and initiative to be a tremendous asset for us in his new position.”
A 2013 graduate of Wabash (Ind.) College with a B.A. in rhetoric, Surenkamp was a four-year letterwinner on the men’s basketball team and appeared in 74 games. The Little Giants went 65-39 (62.5%) overall and 40-22 (64.5%) in conference play during his career and posted 18 wins or more in a season three times.
In the classroom, Surenkamp was a Wabash College President’s Scholar, awarded High Pass on his Senior Comprehensive Exam, received a Top 10% Scholarship and was on the Dean’s List three times.
“I couldn’t be more appreciative or thankful for the opportunity to take over the operations role here at South Alabama,” Surenkamp said. “Coach Graves and the rest of the staff are some of the very best in the business and have taught me valuable lessons about the game of basketball, and have given me the opportunity to learn and grow through experiences I will forever be grateful for. I couldn’t be happier to be a Jaguar and look forward to continuing to be a part of and work with such a great athletic department and institution here at South Alabama.”
He earned a master’s degree in communications from South Alabama in July 2015.
Surenkamp has worked basketball camps for Wabash, Butler University, Indianapolis University and the Indiana Pacers, and has also served summer internships with the Pacers and Wabash, as well as coach AAU teams.
