University of South Florida Head Men’s Basketball Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim has announced the hire of four additional support staff members to join him during his first year at the helm of the Bulls.
Griffin McHone has been named Director of Player Development, Trent Patterson will serve as Director of Basketball Operations, Riley Crean has been appointed Director of Video & Scouting and Cody Dukquits will serve as the Bulls’ new Strength & Condition Coach.
The new additions round out Abdur-Rahim’s recently announced staff at South Florida which includes: assistant coaches Ben Fletcher, Desmond Oliver and William Small along with Chief of Staff Joi Williams.
Griffin McHone – Director of Player Development
McHone most recently served as Director of Operations at Kennesaw State under Abdur-Rahim and alongside Fletcher and Small as the Owls won the ASUN regular season and tournament titles en route to the program’s first NCAA Division I Tournament appearance in 2022-23.
Prior to Kennesaw State, McHone was a graduate manager on the Texas A&M staff after completing his degree in exercise and sport science at the university.
A native of Boerne, Texas, McHone comes from a long line of basketball coaches. His father, Kimble McHone, has coached at Boerne High School since 2009, while his grandfather, Morris McHone, spent over 40 years as a collegiate and professional basketball coach, including a stint as the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs in 1983.
Trent Patterson – Director of Basketball Operations
Patterson served in the same role at Troy University from 2021-23. He spent seven total seasons (five full-time) on Troy’s staff, including three while Fletcher served as an assistant coach with the Trojans.
A native of Dothan, Ala., Patterson rose through the program’s ranks after beginning as a student manager at Troy in 2016-18. Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, he served as a graduate assistant with the program during the 2018-19 season before taking over as video coordinator the following season and eventually being named director of operations.
Riley Crean – Director of Video & Scouting
The son of Tom Crean, Riley joins the Bulls after spending a season with the Dallas Mavericks. Prior to working with the Mavericks in 2022-23, where he assisted with video and scouting reports, Crean served as a manager for the men’s basketball team at Georgia on his father’s staff from 2019-22.
A former standout baseball player, Crean was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 35th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
Cody Dukquits – Strength & Conditioning Coach
Dukquits spent the last five seasons as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance at Stephen F. Austin and was responsible for strength and conditioning of the men’s basketball and golf programs.
Prior to Stephen F. Austin, Dukquits was the Assistant Director of Strength & Conditioning overseeing men’s basketball at Georgia Southern University from 2016-18. He began his career as an intern working with the men’s basketball program at Texas A&M University from 2014-16.
