Southern Nazarene Names Ryan Mahoney Assistant Coach

Southern Nazarene University head coach Adam Bohac has announced the hiring of Ryan Mahoney as his new Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball. He will replace Jarred Merrill to who took an Assistant Coach position at Division I Mercer.

Mahoney comes to SNU after spending the past two seasons as an assistant at Allen County Community College in Iola, Kansas. He brings a wealth of recruiting experience as he signed student-athletes from all over the U.S., including Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Chicago, Gainesville (Georgia) and New Orleans. He also signed a prospect out of Canada. He also served as an resident director at ACCC.

Before Allen County, he spent three seasons at Northern Oklahoma College in Enid as an assistant. He has seen players move on to 4-year institutions, including, St. Bonaventure, Stephen F. Austin, Nebraska-Kearney, Northeastern State, Newman, Central Oklahoma, and Minnesota-Crookston. He also served as a professor for several classes within kinesiology and was an RD at NOC as well. He also coached the 16U and 17U Oklahoma Wizards team in AAU before coming to NOC-Enid.

Mahoney earned a bachelor’s in sports management with a minor in business from Wichita State University in 2010 and served as a student manager for the Shockers’ men’s basketball team from 2007-10. He earned a master’s in sports management from East Central University in 2014.

He is married to former SNU women’s basketball standout Katie Snodgrass, who ranks third all-time in school history in games played, fourth in 3-point field goal percentage, sixth in assists, seventh in 3-pointers made and eighth in steals. She also is tied for the most games played in single-season in school history with 39 as part of SNU’s last NAIA National Championship in 2004. The two live in Bethany and have a son, Keon.
