Head Coach of the Patriot Men’s Basketball team, Joe Krupinski, has announced the hiring of Jamie Jackson as assistant coach.
“We are excited to add Jamie Jackson to our staff as we start a new beginning for St. Catharine basketball,” noted Krupinski. “As a Kentucky native, he enjoyed a very good career both at Bellarmine as well as professionally. He understands our state and the level of competitiveness in the Mid-South. I am confident that his wide range of experience as both a player and coach will be invaluable in us getting off to a good start as we build our program.”
Jamie Jackson comes to St. Catharine from Holy Names University, a NCAA D-II school from Oakland, Calif. Jackson has spent the last two seasons with the Hawks helping with the day-to-day operations. He was head of guard and wing skill development and also took on many of the basketball operation duties.
Prior to joining the Hawks, Jackson played professionally for five years. From 2008-10, he was a standout on the Kentucky Bisons and then from 2010-13, he had a stint with the Washington Generals.
Over the five years, he traveled over 28 countries, 47 states, and two provinces. Jackson was the youngest player on the team with the Bison, where he co-captained a first-year organization to a 26-4 record and the American Basketball Association Championship. In his second season with the Bison, they finished with a 24-6 record and ABA runners-up. Jackson was an American Basketball Association All-Star selection in 2009-10. He averaged 16.9 PPG, 4.4 RPG and 3.1 APG in his final season with the Bison.
Before playing professionally with the Bisons and Generals, Jackson was a standout with the Bellarmine University Knights from 2004-08. While with the Knights, he was a four-year varsity letter winner and served as team captain for one season. Jackson helped lead the Knights to their first national ranking since 1991.
Coming to St. Catharine will also serve as a bit of a homecoming for Jackson. From 2000-04, Jackson was a star at Butler County High School in Morgantown, Ky. Jackson finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,188 points. During his senior season, he averaged a double-double with 24.7 PPG and 11.7 RPG. Jackson was named NABC Regional Player of the Year and was a Louisville Courier-Journal All-State 2nd team selection in 2004.
“I am honored to be a part of the coaching staff at St. Catharine College,” noted Jackson. “I would like to thank Athletic Director, [Tom] Bystrek and Coach Krupinski for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to helping built on previous success here and to cultivating the excellence of our student-athletes in the class, on the court, and in our community.”
