St. Mike’s hires assistant

Saint Michael’s College men’s basketball head coach Josh Meyer announced the hire of Scott Faucher as a part-time second assistant coach on Monday. A former men’s basketball captain at Wheaton (Mass.) College, Faucher provides a tremendous amount of leadership experience to the Purple Knights and will begin his duties with the program in August.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to start my coaching career here at Saint Michael’s College. Growing up with my dad as the coach of Dartmouth College, I knew at an early age that I wanted to become a collegiate coach," said Faucher, whose father Dave has been the head coach at Daniel Webster College since 2008 after a 20-year stint on the Dartmouth staff. "I am very appreciative of the opportunity Coach Meyer has given me, and am looking forward to working with and learning from the coaching staff. I can’t wait to get started."

A native of Lebanon, N.H., Faucher co-founded the Lebanon Longhorns AAU program and a skills camp in his hometown in 2009, also coaching Longhorn U-12, U-15 and U-17 squads until mid-2010. He was charged with all tournament and practice scheduling, as well as organizing fundraising events. With the Drills for Skills Basketball Camp, which he co-directed until 2010, Faucher supervised more than 50 players between the ages of nine and 18, and both developed and implemented a seven-week individual improvement program.

"We are very excited to have Scott Faucher join our coaching staff," said Meyer, who enters his third season with the program, and first as the head coach. "Scott is an extremely hardworking coach with a prodigious basketball mind. Scott embodies the selfless and team-oriented values that we emphasize within our basketball program. He will be an outstanding role model and teacher, and will make great contributions to the basketball program and to the Saint Michael’s community."

During the summer of 2012, Faucher was a youth advocate at Second Growth in Wilder, Vt., where he worked with teens with substance abuse problems. Faucher also helped develop and organize Second Growth’s Coaching for Captains, a leadership development program for high school athletes. The previous summer, Faucher was the director of basketball at Camps Kenwood and Evergreen in Wilmot, N.H., where he held workouts for players between the ages of 7 and 16 while coaching three age-group all-star teams.

Faucher has gained additional camp experience at Dartmouth, Saint Michael’s and Wheaton, as well as serving as a coordinator of the Raider Basketball Camp in Lebanon, N.H., between 2006 and 2010. In his hometown, Faucher was the director of the Lebanon Summer Basketball League from 2007 until 2009.

A May graduate of Wheaton with a degree in economics, Faucher was a senior captain for the Lyons this past winter, when he started a career-high 13 games. In 98 career contests, including 81 as a reserve, the 5-foot-9 guard provided 128 assists and 54 steals. A Dean’s List qualifier, Faucher was a member of the Wheaton Athletic Mentors (WAMs), his alma mater’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
