David Steckel has been named as an assistant coach for the Southern New Hampshire University men’s basketball program under new head coach Jack Perri.
Steckel arrives at SNHU after spending the 2017-18 campaign as the director of operations for the University at Albany men’s basketball team, where he was in charge of all travel, including hotels, buses and flights, as well as on-campus recruiting and internal scouting.
Prior to Albany, Steckel served as the assistant operations and video coordinator at Duquesne University, where he was also a graduate assistant. Steckel oversaw film exchange and editing for the Dukes, while also dealing with the planning and execution of the Jim Ferry Basketball Camp, managing a staff of six student managers and ordering of equipment, in addition to running the team’s social media pages.
Previous to graduation, Steckel served as the head student manager of the men’s basketball team from 2012-15. His duties included acquiring game film, statistical analysis of the roster, creation of highlight tapes and daily rebounding for players in the practice facility.
Steckel earned his undergraduate degree from Duquesne in 2015 with a Bachelor’s in sports marketing & supply chain management. He also collected his Master’s degree in Sports Business from Duquesne in December of 2017.
